Obama administration releases Internet “Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights”

On Thursday, February 23 the Obama administration released a “Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights” and called on Congress to pass strong legislation to enforce the proposal. The Bill of Rights proposes new technical and legal tools to protect the privacy and personal data of online consumers. While it’s unlikely that a law will pass in this election year, the Bill of Rights spotlights the growing popular concern about a perceived lack of controls over the dissemination of online personal information.
